Some of the world’s greatest conservation hotspots can be found on our doorstep, which is why Scotland should be on everyone’s list when it comes to discovering incredible wildlife.
From deciduous woodland to freshwater lochs, Scotland has long been a hub of diverse habitats and many animal conservation projects. Over the course of this six-day trip, work alongside experts in the field to track elusive species, such as the beaver, red squirrel and Scottish wildcat – observing them at one in their native surroundings.
With its unique culture, fascinating history and diverse terrain, Scotland provides the perfect setting to learn about UK standards of animal welfare. Every conservation effort begins somewhere, so start local and get involved in our Scotland Wildlife Expedition to learn how you can contribute to our natural world.
Explore the incredible activities you will embark upon on our fantastic Scottish Highlands and Wildlife Expedition.
Discover the fantastic experiences we have prepared across the course of your trip, from thrilling wildlife hideout sessions, to an unforgettable visit to the iconic Loch Ness.
On arrival at Inverness, transfer to the Highland Wildlife Park and attend lectures and educational experiences based on animal behaviours and the management of endangered species. Evening at leisure in and around Aviemore.
Return to the Highland Wildlife Park to attend lecture on human-animal conflicts, as well as compare animal behaviour studies from day before. Head back to Aviemore for time at leisure.
Explore local area before your transfer to Aigas Field Centre – taking part in either a guided hike from Cairngorms National Park to Loch an Eilein and Castle OR a tour of Loch Ness. Later transfer to Aigas – learning of camera trapping and tracking techniques for small mammals, in preparation for a visit to one of the three different hides for spotting pine martins, badgers and owls.
Trek to the private loch and attempt to spot wild otters. Learn monitoring and management techniques for the repopulation of the Scottish wildcats, before visiting a beaver lodge to monitor evening activity and behaviours, as well as heading to one of the three hides.
Visit beaver lodge, before learning of the red squirrel conservation efforts and population management. Head to one of the hides.
After breakfast return to cabins and ready yourselves for check out – morning at leisure dependent upon the time of your travel arrangements.
Stay an extra night in Aviemore on night three, to sample the wide range of activities on offer - including a hike across Cairngorms National Park, a brewery tour and many more. If you take this option, you will transfer to Aigas on the morning of day four. Please let us know if you would like to extend your stay, and what extra activities you would like us to arrange.
