We are a specialised travel company which offers academic trips and volunteering opportunities for groups and individual travellers, in a number of locations worldwide – including full bonding with ATOL.
Our projects and tours are designed to satisfy the needs of eager students, gap-year adventurers and sabbatical travellers – whilst also supporting the growth of the projects themselves.
We pride ourselves on curating experiences which are personalised to the students’ needs and requirements – taking their education one step further and opening their eyes to once in a lifetime adventures.
GAP Africa all began with a small group of people who, like our students, share a mutual passion for the world around us.
With its extraordinary wildlife and inspiring conservation initiatives, South Africa proved to be an incredible destination to introduce our very first travel programmes back in 2010 – experiences that are soon to expand to all different corners of the world, including Europe, Asia and South America as part of our Global Adventure Projects.

“My entire experience with Gap Africa Projects and the staff, activities and accommodation at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre was fantastic! There is not one thing I can think of that I did not enjoy. Right from the beginning of my journey I have been highly impressed by the support given by the staff from before I went right the way through to when I came home again. It was the best experience of my entire life and I cannot wait to go back one day. I would highly recommend this to anyone and cannot thank the staff and coordinators enough for their brilliant support.”
“Had the best experience and would like to thank everyone who was involved both at Gap Africa and Shamwari. I have never experienced anything like this before and would recommend this to everyone! Everyone at Shamwari was brilliant! Mark from Gap Africa was also amazing with the information provided and making sure we had everything we needed, was a great help! Thank you again for everything!!!”
“I had the most amazing time and can definitely say that I have made lots of friends and learnt so much about the game reserve whilst seeing all the animals. The level of advice and help we received from Gap Africa was amazing and they sorted out all our transfers and B&B accommodation. I would definitely recommend them and Kariega Game Reserve.”
“I had an absolutely amazing time! couldn’t have enjoyed it any more! already wishing I chose to do it longer and am hopefully going to do it again next year! and yes it is a shock! wish I was still there! I really managed to get out with everyone and see Ghana as well which was great, and also managed to get involved in teaching and going to the orphanage too. I have attached some pics of me coaching, the team I coached and also one of the team I trained with in the last week. Thank you very much for all of the help in getting it sorted out!”
Gap Africa Projects offers the opportunity to create your very own tailor made group educational expedition for your students – all of our expeditions are focused on personal development and education of young minds. Students are invited to experience amazing adventures and experiences that would not be possible anywhere else in the world! Our group educational expeditions have been specifically formulated to encourage growth and development for young people in all areas of their lives including adventure, cultures & international understanding, team work, leadership and responsibility.
“Learning outside the classroom should be at the heart of every school’s curriculum and ethos. Children can gain valuable learning experiences from going on cultural visits overseas, to teachers simply using their school grounds imaginatively. Educational visits can bring learning to life by deepening young people’s understanding of the environment, history and culture and improving their personal development.”

Our group educational expeditions are unlike any other out of classroom learning experience! Your students will have a truly life changing experience and learn more about themselves in a couple of weeks than they probably have done in as many years. Most depart as young people but all return as young adults.
Group educational expeditions are conducted by specialists in their field who are willing and able to pass on their knowledge and experience to your group. With the focus on developing the students, our leaders and tutors are also encouraged to let them work as a team and make decisions in certain circumstances and situations.
