Most universities require you to have several weeks of experience before they will consider your application, and you will be expected to gain more experience while studying. Whether you’re applying for the first time, or looking to put the cherry on top of your portfolio, our veterinary work experience courses are meticulously assembled to meet EMA criteria whilst giving you the chance to work with vets on reserve in South Africa!

Veterinary Work Experience

Veterinary Wildlife and Game Capture Course

An amazing opportunity to work with our Veterinarian and Game Capture team at several locations and game reserves in the Eastern Cape. The work is incredibly varied and you will have the opportunity to be involved with hands on Game Capture plus community based clinical work.

The programme is aimed at veterinary students in either pre-clinical or clinical years and is centred around gaining hands on experience in Game Capture via a range of methods and you can expect to be working with different species of antelope and other Southern African animals.

Waterberg Wildlife & Veterinary Course

Are you looking to gain some hands on Wildlife Veterinary Experience and whilst having the opportunity to spend your days out on a Big 5 Game Reserve. If so, our Waterberg Wildlife & Veterinary Course is the programme for you.

Situated on a 35,000 Hectare, Big 5 Game Reserve, the course allows participants to become part of the conservation team and work alongside researchers, wildlife vets and conservation professionals.

If you are a Veterinary Nurse, Vet Student or in Pre-Vet studies this course will be an ideal work experience programme.

If you’re looking for an experience or placement that will contribute towards and enhance your EMS for Veterinary Science, this program in South Africa is for you. Working alongside wildlife vets, you will study both the practical and theoretical elements of wildlife veterinary medicine and conservation in Africa.

“Pre” Vet Eco Experience

For those students who are sure that veterinary medicine is what they want to study, we offer a unique course at Shamwari Game Reserve. The Pre Vet Eco Experience offers students the opportunity to work alongside Shamwari’s award winning conservation department and pioneering veterinary staff. The program itself is split into both theoretical and practical activities, all based around veterinary science and conservation in relation to African wildlife.

Our Vet Shadow Wildlife Experience is a unique opportunity to shadow highly knowledgeable wildlife vets on their day to day work out in the wild of Africa.
